Physiotherapy can benefit dogs of all ages from your family pet to working dogs. Our aim is to be able to restore movement, decrease pain and return animals to their optimal function.
Physiotherapy can help with post-operative rehabilitation by creating a tailored rehabilitation programme, as well as assist with maintenance and performance improvement.
It can be used alongside your dog's normal exercise program to keep them fit, maintain general well-being, and reduce the risk of injury.
PLEASE BE AWARE: As per the Veterinary Surgeons Act (1966), veterinary consent must be obtained before a veterinary physiotherapy assessment or treatment of an animal with undiagnosed pain or lameness.
Your dog will undergo a thorough assessment at the start of each session. The animal's gait will be observed to establish the baseline and the quality of movement. The range of motion of joints and muscle strength and tone will be assessed.
Other assessments might also be required in case of spinal injuries or post-surgical cases.
The treatment plan will be tailored according to the findings of the assessment to aid your animal's needs.
Techniques such as soft tissue mobilisation, massage, trigger point release and joint mobilisation reduce pain and stiffness. These techniques will be tailored to each dog depending on the dog’s pain threshold, attention span, and energy levels.
Exercises will be assigned as homework to help improve the manual session and will be utilised to target particular body areas. Treat stretches, balancing drills, and strength training are some of the exercises that will be used.
Exercises can be utilised to ensure longer-lasting benefits from the manual treatment and eventual self-management of their condition.
